UST Global Expert Offers Five Strategies for Fostering Change, Including Knowing When Not to Outsource
clear
Orange, Calif. - February 5, 2010 - At the 2010 Humanity and Innovation Summit held recently at the Argyros School of Business & Economics at Chapman University, a panel of experts called for global organizations to use their business acumen and ethical convictions to create meaningful social change.

According to Erich Kreidler, Global Relationship Manager for UST Global® and a panelist for the session on Global Outsourcing and Transforming Lives: Why BPO is Propelling Social Change, “We have seen great economic and social benefits from outsourcing. Companies recognize that it frees up resources for strategy and innovation and even expands their knowledge base with the growing sophistication of global IT professionals. Outsourcing is also creating an emerging middle class of workers in developing economies who in turn are becoming consumers of these innovative goods and services - and entrepreneurs who create new ones. Innovation is the driver of these dual benefits, a lynchpin of positive economic and social change.”

Kreidler noted that the global recession slowed this positive trend that must be accelerated if the world’s economies are to produce enough new products, services, leaders, industries – and jobs. “We can’t achieve the level of social and economic change we need without doing more to foster innovation,” he said.

The panel on BPO and social change offered five strategies to help companies promote social change through innovation:

arrow Embrace the potential for transformation :
As the economy recovers, especially in the U.S., companies can put their focus back on innovation rather than on cost-cutting for survival. By applying the cost advantages of outsourcing, resources and investment can be committed to new ideas and products that create long-term, well-paying job at home.
arrow Invest in local communities :
Hire locally based on a commitment to create new jobs that should not be outsourced. Invest in R&D to create these non-transferrable jobs that will build new careers and strengthen the community.
arrow Invest in education :
Many jobs lost over the past ten years are not returning, but training in technology, energy and healthcare will create a workforce prepared for the new economy being led by these fast-growing industries.
arrow Invest in entrepreneurship:
Companies that value entrepreneurship turn it into a corporate mandate that incents and rewards creativity throughout all levels of an organization.
arrow Commit to social change and its power to improve economic conditions and transform lives:
Global recession has changed the ways businesses think about the future. Leading industries in the next ten years may not have existed 10-20 year ago. Global economies are linked such that social responsibility is a global business requirement.

UST Global CEO Sajan Pillai said, “The Center for Innovation and Humanity led by Executive Director Glenn Llopis brought together some of the best thinking on social change from global business, academia and non-profits. We were delighted to have Erich represent UST Global and our long-standing commitment to social responsibility as a fundament part of our business strategy.”
